OTL talks with Superstar ‘FireboyDML’

Question: How does FireboyDML describe himself?

Answer: Reserved and slightly sensual. Those are the two words that describe me but more reserved.

Question: How do you feel when someone makes wrong comments about you?

Answer: That is very normal. I started to have peace of mind because it is better to accept that when things happen, it is most likely because they are meant to be that way. You’re an artiste, people listen to your music, mostly, that’s all they know about you. You don’t expect them to know the kind of person that you are so it’s only normal. So those things do not bother me.

Question: Do you feel like you would ever get to the point of making a documentary of FireboyDML?

Answer: Yes. That is something that is definitely going to be in the works. The main focus right now is getting to people through the music. It’s still early times

Question: In what way would you say life has changed for you?

Answer: I’m not where I used to be and I am grateful for that. My music has gathered more audience, people are listening, I have fans, devoted fanbase, there are things I used to do that I can’t do anymore, those are insignificant stuff. The main stuff is I get to live my dream and that’s very important to me. The music space is not for the feeble mind. It can be intense, confusing and draws you closer to God. It makes you see the importance of things and people, making you realise that you need to bring your loved ones closer and appreciate them for being around you.

Question: Would you say people appreciated Peru more than they did Madonna’s Frozen Remix?

Answer: The cultural importance of Peru to Afrobeats is larger than the Madonna collaboration. I mean Peru opened doors. The audience and reach that came with Peru is unimaginable. Also the fact that it’s a bigger song. It’s always going to be on record though that Madonna and FireboyDML did a song together.

Question: Would you say your music journey has been a straightforward journey or not?

Answer: It’s never straight. There’s good times and bad times. The important thing is I get to do exactly what I want to do with my life. Nothing beats that. There are so many terrible things that happen in life but people only see the glamour. I will only show you the glamour anyway, like nobody cares about the bad times. Everybody wants to see the good times really. People really want to be reminded mostly of the good times rather than the bad and me, I  want to live in a way that if I die today, I fulfilled every last bit of my purpose.

Question: What is the advice you would give someone still struggling out there to stay strong?

Answer: Yo! Take your time to find your sound. Once you do that, everything else just comes easy. The people that will help you exist but they need to see something right?! Nobody wants to put any effort into something that is not promising. Give them a reason to want to reach out to you. They’re right there watching you. Every single talented artiste out there, don’t worry. Eyes are on you. They’re just waiting for you to be ready. Look like a finished product. By the time Olamide discovered me, I know for sure I was ready and he saw that too.

Question: Are you looking forward to your Show? Your first headline show ever in London.  Are you saving seats for people?

Answer: That’s completely up to my team. My job is to manage sound, perform and give a good show. Get your tickets, it’s going to be an amazing night. My first concert ever so you know it’s going to be big hosted by Olamide himself and other special guest performances and it’s going to be a blast.

Thank you FireboyDML
