‘Yemi Alade’ – The Rebel Queen

3rd July 2024, I had the privilege of attending a listening party for Yemi Alade’s forthcoming project- Rebel Queen . One thing I like about Yemi Alade is her energy—there is never a dull moment, even when she is responding to questions about the album and her journey thus far in the music business. Yemi is an entertainer in every sense of the word.

Rebel Queen is a mixture of many things, showcasing Yemi’s ability to make music that transcends the latest trending styles, standing the test of time. This album is a nod to that ethos. Yemi draws her inspiration from many genres whilst staying true to herself. You get a Ragga-influenced sound on a track titled “Bop,” while the track “Peace and Love,” featuring Ziggy Marley, is reggae-inspired. The deep bass of Amapiano is present on several tracks on the album.

The tracks that stood out for me were “Ki lo wa wa” and “I’m Sorry.” Her vocals on “I’m Sorry,” combined with the basslines, were a sound to behold. I thoroughly enjoyed the whole album. Yemi Alade’s ‘Rebel Queen ‘ will be available on Friday, July 26, 2024.
