Wednesday 17th July 2024, I had the privilege of attending a listening party for Chike’s (@officialchike) third studio album. I was first introduced to Chike by a friend, Nosa, who sent me his debut album. Since then, I’ve been captivated by Chike’s beautifully unique voice. “Son of Chike,” a 12-track project, is mesmerising, offering something for everyone. Whether you’re into the Amapiano-infused beats of “Lifetime Love” or a heartfelt love song like “Ego Oyibo,” Chike’s versatility shines through.
Let’s be honest, Chike is a loverboy at heart. His passion for love songs is palpable, and he comes alive when discussing the lyrics and thought process behind them. This album is a deliberate representation of his culture, love, and humanity, showcasing his desire to live a balanced life despite past imperfections, particularly evident in the track “Balance Am.”
One of my personal favorites is “One Day,” featuring Olamide, a standout collaboration that blends their styles seamlessly. The event was not only musically enriching but also a reunion with familiar faces. Special shoutouts to DJ Mightee for keeping the energy high and to the host, GraceyMae for fostering deeper conversations.
