Saturday 21st September 2024 saw Lungu Boy SOLD OUT Tour, London leg at O2 Arena with the guy of the moment and Nigeria’s finest, Asake!!
Asake who’s birth name is Ahmed Ololade, is a Nigerian singer/songwriter.
Asake who is currently on his Lungu Boy world tour which is also the name of his recently released his third studio album that dropped on Friday 9th August 2024.
I had the privilege of attending Asake’s O2 show this weekend and I must say, Asake DID NOT MISS!!
Although he was scheduled to grace the stage at 8pm, the crowd started becoming restless, fidgety, and possibly a little frustrated, he eventually came out abruptly after 9pm with a big entry as he normally does. Hanging high above the ground on a lifted staged, (I don’t know any other way to describe it lol) the crowd gave him an huge, amazing welcome.
The most beautiful thing about Asake fans is that they range from different ages, young teens to adults in their 40s or above. All from different racial and cultural backgrounds, such as, African, European, Asian and Caribbean. Although Asake sings mostly in his native Nigerian tongue, Yoruba, so does his fans. We all sing right along with him. Some said it was not possible but Asake continues to prove them wrong.
Screaming, shouting, hollering with excitement, Asake is a force to be reckon with.
Asake kicked off his performance and performed a number of songs from all 3 of his albums. ‘Amapiano’ ft Olamide from his second studio album ‘Work Of Art’ released in 2023 was definitely a one of the favourites of the night. As soon as you heard the intro “Dem know” the crowd went wild. He was full of energy, full of life, he was ready to give his all and he did.
Asake had his celebrity friends come through and blessed us with a performance with the songs they were featured on.
First guest was our very own UK finest and rapper, the talented and my fellow South Londoner, Stormzy. Performing ‘Suru’ from the Asake’s third studio and current album release, ‘Lungu Boy’. His presence got the crowd moving and shaking. Was definitely a surprise and beautiful experience.
Next up we had Nigeria’s mega star, grammy award-winning, talented and the legendary Star Boy, Wizkid performing one of my or the only favourite track from Lungu Boy, MMS. The very first time I heard this track, 10 seconds in I instantly knew it was a banger. I loved it. The beat, the vibez I got from it and the energy did it for me 100%. Played the track on repeats 5 times in that moment. Wizkid brought the energy and feels to the show and performance as usual. He never misses. He didn’t leave the stage without giving Asake that brotherly hug that we all probably felt from our seats, it was such a proud moment for both Asake and Wizkid.
Final guest was the legendary Nigerian producer, Sarz. Although he is not singing or rapping on the track, the song ‘Happiness’ is his song featuring Asake. ‘Happiness’ became and still is a summer smash. It had everyone feeling happy, appreciative of being happy and became the anthem. You couldn’t go anywhere without hearing that song. ‘Happiness’ was added to Asake’s ‘Lungu Boy’ album. Sarz brought his energy and vibez while supporting Asake as he performed the song.
Sarz also produced other tracks on the Lungu Boy album, such as, ‘Active’ ft Travis Scott, ‘Worldwide’, ‘Mentally’, ‘Uhh Yeahh’ and ‘Ligali’.
Asake closed the show with the track, ‘Peace Be Unto You’ (PBUY) from his second studio album, ‘Mr. Money With The Vibe.’

After the show backstage, Asake was surprised and presented with an amazing gift, his second platinum plaque for achieving his second sold out O2 Arena show and a WOA silver plaque. This was presented to him by the legendary and UK’s very own, actor, Idris Elba.
This is a huge achievement for Asake and on of which we are proud of.
Congratulations Asake.
